HYDROALCOHOLIC GEL OR SOLUTION

Hand washing is not enough to control the spread of bacteria. It is therefore strongly recommended that, in healthcare establishments, before and after any act of care, on hands that are clean to the naked eye, uninjured and thoroughly dry, hydroalcoholic friction is used.

  • For nursing staff,
  • For the sick,
  • For visitors after contact with a patient, ...

Hygienic hydroalcoholic friction protocol

On dry, visibly clean hands

Indicators of hydroalcoholic solution consumption - ICSHA3 - have been set up in the REANIMATION, SURGERY and MATERNITY departments.

The purpose of this indicator is to record the number of rubs per day of hydroalcoholic solution, as defined by the French Ministry of Health. It is presented as a percentage and a performance class (A to C). It is an indirect marker of hand hygiene implementation.

It takes into account :

  • The volume of SHA consumed within a department
  • Number of rubs per day per patient
  • Number of hospital days

Today, Staphylococcus aureus, the emblem of bacterial resistance in the hospital environment, accounts for barely 2% of hospital-acquired infection reports, compared with 10% in 2003. This progress is essentially due to good hand hygiene and the introduction of hydroalcoholic gels/solutions.
